caBIG Data Services
In caBIG, research communities provide resources to the grid in the form of data and analytical services. A key aspect of the caGrid infrastructure is the tooling, APIs, and common metadata, interfaces, and query languages which are used by data providers and consumers to supply and access data uniformly in caBIG. Data Services make use of Introduce (link) to provide a customized service development framework for data providers, and also leverage the caDSR and the GME (link) for data model discovery and description. caGrid Data Services provide an object oriented view of data on the grid, and clients query Data Services using a common query language which expresses objects of interest in terms of their attributes and associations to other objects. Such queries can be constructed by clients by examining the rich standard metadata exposed by all Data Services which describe the data model which providers are exposing in terms of both structure and semantics.
