Press Release: Ohio State Helps Develop National Cancer Information Grid

Monday 01/29/2007

An international team of researchers, led by experts at the Ohio State University Medical Center, has released the second distribution of a major global computer project that could ultimately redefine the future of cancer research and patient care.

The work, referred to as caGrid 1.0, is a suite of tools, resources and computer software that will enable researchers anywhere in the world to tap into vast libraries of data and genetic information that, until now, have been largely inaccessible.

"There’s never been a lack of cancer research or data, but it’s stored in all sorts of ways and in all kinds of formats, and that’s been the problem," says Dr. Joel Saltz, chair of the department of biomedical informatics and a member of the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center.
