The cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (caBIG) has been showing signs of success as it encourages open-network collaboration between researchers. Launched in February of 2004, the grid's main users include cancer treatment centers whose researchers are able to both access data and share it, among other things. The grid also incorporates a range of Web-based applications, software tools and technologies for cancer research.
