Dr. Belkacem-Boussaid received his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Algiers, Algeria. His MS was received in Electrical Engineering from the University of Valenciennes, France. His Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering was received from the University of Pierre and Marie Curie, France. Dr. Belkacem-Boussaid is a senior IEEE member and a member of SPIE. Prior to joining the Ohio State University in February 2009, he worked as a senior research scientist and senior research engineer for several high-tech companies, specializing in CAD systems and digital asset management software. From October 1997 until March 2000 he was a post doctoral research associate at Beckman Institute, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Most recently, he was a senior research scientist at Bioimagene, a biotechnology company. During his time with Bioimagene, he was in charge of the design and development of new algorithms for the analysis of tissue biopsies, as well as image quality improvement and the assessment of Bioimagene scanner images.
Research
His research interests are focused in: filtering, segmentation, image quality and analysis, multi-modals registration, pattern recognition, 3-D reconstruction and analysis, as well as digital signal processing and its appliance to medicine. In the past twelve years he has been involved in the development of computer-aided detection and diagnosis (CAD) systems for different organs, such as: retina, breast, prostate, brain, and knee, using different modalities.
