Michael Xi Zhang received a B.S. in both Computer Science and Molecular Biology from the Special Class for Gifted Young (SCGY) at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 1999. After spending a year and half at Biophysics graduate program at The Ohio State University, he transferred to State University of New York at Stony Brook and received a M.S. in Computer Science in 2002. Now he is a Ph.D. student in Computer Science and Engineering Department at The Ohio State University under the advisory of Dr. Joel H. Saltz. He has been working as a Graduate Research Associate at BMI since January 2003.
Research
Project Involvement
My research interests focus on storage and run-time support of data-intensive application, especially on supporting optimized data storage, indexing, retrieval and processing of large datasets across many distributed storage systems. My research efforts aim to support efficient analysis, associative query, and visualization of very large datasets and investigate the relative I/O performance of various file cache and replication strategies.
I am also interested in performance modeling and evaluation for large-scale mass-storage systems and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) storage networks.
