About the CIALAB

The Clinical Image Analysis Laboratory (CIALAB) was founded by Dr. Metin Gurcan in 2005. Dr. Gurcan has 20 years of image analysis experience both in industry and academy. The mission of the lab is to plan, design, develop, evaluate and deploy image analysis algorithms to make a positive difference in people's lives. We help health professionals to make consistent and accurate decisions, scientists to explore some unique relationships while we train the next generation scientists and health professionals with the leading edge knowledge and technologies. Our lab members are some of the brightest postdoctoral researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, medical students, interns and distinguished guests from prestigious labs from all over the world. To develop our projects on quantitative image analysis, we collaborate with radiologists, pathologists, oncologists, dermatologists, sports medicine doctors, surgeons, biologists, veterinarians, computer scientists, statisticians, human-computer interaction and design experts among others. Our projects are supported by the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation and several foundations. Our work received many awards including NIH EUREAKA Award, NCI CaBIG Embodying the Vision Award, OSU CCC REAP Award in addition to our students’ many awards.
